It was an exciting primary season for the Republican Party of Alabama! Tommy Tuberville secured the nomination for Governor, while Caroleene Dobson, Young Boozer, and Andrew Sorrell were chosen to be the Party’s candidates for Secretary of State, Treasurer, and State Auditor. We will have to wait to decide some of the other nominees, as there will be several runoff elections after no candidate secured an outright majority of votes. John Wahl and Wes Allen received the most votes for Lieutenant Governor, while Katherine Robertson and Jay Mitchell advanced to the runoff for Attorney General. Corey Hill and Christina Woerner McInnis will face off for Agriculture Commissioner, as will Barry Moore and Jared Hudson for the open Senate seat. Due to redistricting, the primaries for Congressional Districts 1, 2, 6, and 7 will be held at a later date. The victorious candidates for the remaining Congressional Districts were Mike Rogers for District 3, Robert Aderholt for District 4, and Dale Strong for District 5.
We are proud to announce a number of candidates endorsed by the Young Republican Federation of Alabama were victorious in their primaries. Caroleene Dobson will be the Party’s nominee for Secretary of State, James Lomax will run to represent State House District 20, and Jacob Tidmore will be the nominee for Shelby County Property Tax Commissioner. Without a Democrat opponent, John Morgan Owens will run unopposed for Pickens County Judge Place 1 after emerging victorious from his primary, and Ben Foster has advanced to a runoff for Shelby County District Judge Place 3.
Besides elected officials, Young Republicans were elected to the Alabama Republican Party’s State Executive Committee. Running unopposed are YRFA Chairman Stephanie Petelos Nabavian for Jefferson County District 5 Place 6, YRFA Executive Director Dr. Heath Padgett for Jefferson County District 2 Place 2, and Patrick Reilly for Tuscaloosa Place 9. In addition to his District Judge runoff, Ben Foster was elected to represent Jefferson County District 4 Place 1.
We are so proud of all the Young Republicans who ran in our state, and extend our congratulations to our newest slate of candidates. We look forward to voting for our nominees up and down the ballot this coming November!
